 1. What is SSC JE?


SSC JE is a national-level exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit Junior Engineers in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quantity Surveying disciplines. The selected candidates are posted in various central government departments like CPWD, MES, BRO, CWC, and others.


2. Exam Process

The SSC JE selection process has two main stages:

Paper 1 (Objective) – Computer-Based Test


Subjects:

General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 marks)

General Awareness (50 marks)

Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical – 100 marks)

Duration: 2 hours


Negative Marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer

Paper 2 (Conventional/Descriptive)

Subject: Your specific engineering discipline

Marks: 300

Duration: 2 hours


3. Important Dates (2025 )

Notification Release: 2025

Form Filling Start: 30/06/2025

Last Date to Apply: 21/072025

Expected vacancy :- 1500

Paper 1 Exam: Likely in October–November 2025

Paper 2 Exam: Will be notified after Paper 1 results

2025 Vacancy (Expected): 1500+ vacancies (actual number will be in the official notification)

5. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

Diploma or Degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.


Age Limit:

Usually between 18–30 or 18–32 years (depends on department).

Age relaxation for reserved categories.


6. Salary and Benefits


Pay Level: Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)

In-Hand Salary: Around ₹44,000/month after deductions


Allowances:

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

Dearness Allowance (DA)

Travel Allowance (TA)

Medical, Pension (NPS), and other benefits


7. Job Profile


Design Work: Preparing project plans and blueprints

Supervision: Overseeing construction and maintenance work

Estimation: Calculating project costs, materials, manpower

Project Management: Ensuring project is completed on time and within budget

Reporting: Maintaining technical and administrative records

Workplace: Office or site-based, depending on the department

Promotion Path:

JE → Assistant Engineer → Executive Engineer → Superintendent Engineer
